OCCUPATIONAL
ILLNESS
|
 I
was born on a farm in Aurora, Illinois. After high school I attended the
American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. After graduation I worked
at Hallmark Greeting Cards as a lettering designer. After a year there
I returned to my hometown and went to work as head of lettering design
at Greetings, Inc, a division of Rustcraft. From there I went to Chicago
and worked for various different ad agencies doing pasteup and lettering.
I got tired of the rushed city life and moved to the Arkansas Ozarks in
1973. There I went to work for Harrison Sign and started learning the sign
skills. After a year there I went on my own for the next 14 years untill
I became disabled with Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis and Arthritis.
Most
of the signwork I did was for customers who didn't have a high dollar budget
so I tried to add lines and panels to help the layout some. Many of the
photos are old and taken with a not so good camera. I tried to improve
them some with digital photo editing. Everything I did was hand drawn and
designed. No computers involved.
I
have put up the document, that was on the Letterheads website for some
time, about occupational diseases that painters are prone to. I have first
hand experience with this, I regret to say. I have nothing here on any
hazards associated with vinyls so if you have any information concerning
this, please let me know and I will post it.
